Apple Foldable Phones: The Future is Here?

Following the launch of the Vision Pro, Apple may be gearing up for another major shakeup in its product range with the launch of new foldable devices. While brands like Samsung, Motorola, OnePlus and Google are trying their hand at foldable devices, Apple has so far stayed away from releasing a foldable iPhone, but that may change in the near future.

According to a report from The Information, Apple is currently building prototypes of two clamshell-style foldable iPhones, which means the smartphones will be similar in design to the Galaxy Z Flip and will have the ability to take photos while standing at a 90-degree angle. Will happen. When opened.

It has not always been like this. Display analyst Ross Young, who has a track record of being accurate with such tips, had suggested a possible 2024 release for the foldable iPhone after seeing a 2023 arrival and no sign of an iPhone flip. However, a report by Ming-Chi Kuo states that the foldable iPhone may not arrive until 2025. Another analyst Ben Wood believes that before then we will get at least one foldable iPad.

Now, sources at Samsung Display in Korea believe that Apple's first foldable device will be seen in 2027, and it may not be a phone. Also prioritizing Apple may be its program of OLED display upgrades for the iPad and Mac, which will push its first foldables down even further.

A new report from The Information tackles the work Apple is doing on foldable devices, and like other sources, it indicates that a foldable iPad could be the company's first order of business. Importantly, the report states that the prototypes are in the early stages of development and there are no plans to enter mass production this year or next year.

iPhone Flip Display

Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that the first foldable iPhone will have a massive 8-inch display. It will be larger than the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which offers a 7.6-inch display when unfolded. The 8-inch display would also be almost as large as the 8.3-inch iPad mini.

A separate report claims that Apple may be working with LG on a 7.5-inch OLED foldable display panel.

But that's not all – another report from Kuo says that Apple is testing a 9-inch display for foldables. This will dwarf any foldable phone currently in the market.

Kuo has also said that Apple is considering using color e-ink displays for external displays on foldables.

I am thinking. This type of screen won't be as responsive as an LCD or OLED panel, but it will be great for keeping battery consumption low.

Interestingly, a patent 5 also suggests that Apple could give the iPhone Flip a measure of self-protection should it ever be dropped. The idea behind the patent is that the flip hinge will start to close mid-way, and the balance of the phone will change and prevent the screen from hitting the ground and getting damaged.
